“As far as the historical status is concerned, Tibet was an independent country. Any country including India or whoever says Tibet was historically a part of China is wrong, and we cannot accept that," Tibetan President said during a press conference in New Delhi, the capital of India on Thursday.

Dharamshala — A Tibetan filmmaker jailed in China for making a film about the Olympics and Tibet has escaped from China and recently arrived in the United States.

Dharamshala — The largest group of youth activists among the exiled Tibetan population, has recently announced it will take out a nationwide campaign in India calling for independence for Tibet, highlighting the Tibetan people's vision for a free and democratic Tibet.

New Delhi — India should treat Tibet as a “core issue”, Tibetan government-in-exile’s President Lobsang Sangay said today, expressing concern over Beijing’s growing influence in India’s immediate neighbourhood.

India is home to an estimated 1.5 lakh Tibetan refugees, most of who live in settlements across the country. They can get Indian passports, but have to forego their identity cards for that.(PTI FILE PHOTO)

In some cases, authorities have found people holding both the documents, not permitted under the law. So, those wishing to reclaim their identity cards will need to surrender their passports.
